“A happy life is not built upon the goal of perfection, but on balance.”
- @aquamaryna
This quote resonates with me as I focus more on balance and boundaries, compared to holding unrealistic expectations of perfectionism in my life. When reflecting on the word “balance,” imagery is helpful. This morning I was connecting the meaning of this word with our authentically rustic art/homework/game table, which has been in my family for 100+ years. With a piece of functional furniture, like a table, each leg is equally important and independent of one another, yet “work together” to create solidity and balance to hold the weight of which it needs to bear. When I woke my son up this morning, I noticed he created a little table of his own out of Rubiks cubes and other itty-bitty random things in his room. I took this as a sign to to further think and write about balance as a theme today.
It is easy to get overwhelmed with all of the things we need to do. Perhaps, though, we can focus on just four “legs” of areas to prioritize to create a sense of harmonious balance in our day?
Our roles/domains/areas of focus can shift from person to person, and from day to day and season to season within our lives.
Sometimes I just need to ensure I have four aspects aligned: my sleep, movement, food and mindset. Other times, when those habits seem more automatic and dialed in, I can shift my focus to spending time cultivating creativity and connection. Narrowing down and nurturing just four foundational “legs” can help hold the weight of our life. Balance, not perfectionism, invites satisfaction and happiness within us.
What are four “legs” that need your focus today to help you feel balanced?
Please share this with someone who may benefit from a little more harmony.
