I love to talk about “words of the day” with my children. Sometimes I pick a word/theme that we talk about each morning and sometimes they do. Today they each wanted to pick a word and we thought it would be fun to find a way to integrate each of their words.
My son thought of bravery and my daughter thought of convenience. Both wonderful concepts.
We discussed how we could incorporate the two together and thought about the power in practicing being brave with itty-bitty opportunities that seem minor or convenient in our life, on our terms. In doing this, similar to consistently lifting weights, we become mentally and emotionally stronger to be brave when it is inconvenient or a bigger deal.
Attend that networking event, call the guy back, apply for that job, dust off your bike, go to the store to buy supplies for your hobby, get a library card.
Say yes.
Say no.
Sure, it might feel unnatural or inconvenient but could it be worth it?
When building any skill, we need to work out the kinks of being uncomfortable before it is comfortable. If we practice being brave often enough though, it will become more of a trait that is comfortable and convenient for us when we need it most.
Today, I invite you to explore opportunities to practice a little bravery.
“Not dealing with being uncomfortable only makes us that much more uncomfortable.”
– Wayne William Snellgrove
These pictures are of our brave and independent neighborhood bunny, who I always see on my morning walks. She appears calm, fearless and confident, exuding bravery in her morning endeavors.
