Brenden’s Friday Backpacks is an impressive local non-profit organization. The creation, implementation, and mission is the epitome of an itty-bitty idea making a real big impact.
Check out these numbers:
In 2011, one creative kid named Brenden had a real genius idea. He created an Eagle Scout project to feed hungry local children over the weekend.
The mission and movement spread. Brenden’s Friday Backpacks now helps kiddos from early childhood, up to high school, in 60 local Jefferson County schools.The need is real.
In 2024, each and every Friday, they currently feed 1,764 children EACH WEEK with single-serve, non-perishable, kid-friendly foods for real weekend nourishment.
The cost is real. Currently, in early 2024, the WEEKLY cost to feed this many hungry children is $10,429.17.
The program is 100% run by non-paid volunteers. Their love is real.

It was such an honor to learn about this organization at a recent Twin City Area Optimist Club meeting.
Together, we brought in over 5,000 single-serve donations and had the most fun assembling 417 snack packs.
It was really impressive how each of our itty-bitty efforts created such a big impact.
