My son’s fourth grade school year is coming to an end. This chapter of his life reminds me of my sweet summer memories as a ten year old:
The year was 1994. It was a hot summer between my fourth and fifth grade school years. My mindful mother organized an eventful trip for the two of us to travel from southwest Wisconsin to pick up both of my grandmothers in central Wisconsin. We would then all travel to Minneapolis to meet my Godmother, Bonnie. Mom coordinated all the details for an unforgettable trip for the five of us to see Phantom of the Opera at the Chanhassen Dinner Theater and go to the Mall of America, for my first time. What an incredibly lucky girl I was!
The Mall of America had a Peanuts-themed amusement park called Camp Snoopy at that time. I can still remember being in line for a ride when I first saw a stand for Dippin’ Dots “ice cream,” apparently a significant and memorable moment in my life. These flash-frozen ice cream balls were so revolutionary and futuristic, like food straight out of The Jetsons.
Only offered in a few flavors at that time, I chose Banana Split. I savored each sweet spoonful of the itty-bitty nuggets of hard ice cream, which quickly melted into a creamier texture. The paradox of this delicious dessert still perplexes and delights me.
Having grown up in a small, rural town, the only other place I remember seeing Dippin’ Dots sold, throughout my childhood, was at East and West Town shopping malls in Madison, Wisconsin, 70 miles away where we lived.
Now, 30 years later, I am ecstatic that there is actually a Dippin’ Dots location right here in OurFESTUS area, located at: 1232 Commercial Blvd (Hwy. 61-67) in Herculaneum.
This locally, family-owned and operated business has been around since 2019. If you are on the run and wanting to quickly grab goodies to-go, they have a convenient drive-through. If you want to relax and soak in some sunshine, they have a couple colorful outdoor tables. I invite you to discover their indoor activities, as well.
Lose yourself in playing arcade games or allow your imagination to flow at their coloring station. Perhaps you could bring in your own game to play with others, as there is plenty of space to spread out and be silly. All of this is in addition to the excitement you will have when you pick out your own custom treat. While there are numerous stand-alone Dippin’ Dots flavors, you can also get creative when you pick out ways to make your very own sundae, float or shake. Quench your thirst with a specialized fruity lemonade, which is the perfect pair to their gourmet DOC POPCORN! They offer an array of popcorn flavors to choose from with this indulgent snack. Whether you are craving something salty or sweet, want to eat it there or package it to go, they have bags, decorative tins and cute buckets to keep popcorn fresh. These make the most tasty and generous gifts for teachers, grads, Father’s Day, and/or for a unique and effortless summer party hostess gift.
If you would rather have their tasty treats delivered to you, they provide a DoorDash option. You can also easily place an online order through their website to have this delectable Doc Popcorn delivered right to your door. So helpful!
Equally helpful was Allison, who served us there in the past. She was cheerful and patient in her interactions with my son. He was really struggling to narrow down which three Dippin’ Dots flavors he could pick out to fit into his medium-sized cup. She graciously allowed him to sample a couple flavors to help him decide.
He chose Blue Raspberry, Cherry n’ Blue Razz and Rainbow, and was very proud and satisfied with his cool cup of concoctions. We also picked out some Cheesy Cheddar Doc Popcorn to go, which was warm and scrumptious.I am thrilled we have a local location to create some sweet and lasting memories that include Dippin’ Dots (and now Doc Popcorn) with my children, just as my magnificent mother did with me.
This is another non-paid endorsement encouraging you to explore and support our local establishments and indulge in all OurFESTUS-area community has to offer.
Thank you for reading, commenting on social media, and sharing this with others.
WE create the sweet community we crave around here.
