“For philosophy doesn’t consist in outward display, but in taking heed to what is needed and being mindful of it.” – MUSONIUS RUFUS
Sometimes we reflect on our needs when we face specific beginnings like the start of a new week or a new month. Other times, we have a crescendo of sorts in our life when we have to pause and heed to address our needs. Often, this manifests in feeling mentally or physically “squirrelly.”
Maybe we have been too busy and now feel overwhelmed with our to-do list. Our squirrelly brain struggles to find clarity amidst the mess.
Or, maybe we are feeling squirrelly in the sense that we need to physically move our body more?
Perhaps we have been too consumed by the mundane tasks in our life, we need to add in elements of creativity or moments to connect with others.
Does feeling squirrelly indicate a need to spend less money? Spend more time relaxing?
Regardless of when/how squirrelly-ness shows up within you, accept this as a gentle invitation to heed to your need. Recognize when your mind, body or soul needs to re-set. Try to honor what it is you really need. Your inner squirrel may just be hungry and in-need of nourishment to feel full again.May is national Mental Health Awareness month. Allow this to be a month you intentionally heed to your mental health needs, along with checking in on others. We can observe when someone else is acting a little squirrelly, as well. Sometimes just an itty-bitty check-in can make a big impact for someone to feel love and hope.
Wishing you moments to reflect on how you can heed to your needs to refuel and calm your inner squirrel. Enjoy this new day, week and month.
Here is a previous post from February 6, 2023, when I turned the calendar and wrote about “New”…
The photos of this hungry, lively squirrel were taken this last weekend, outside of my home in Festus, Missouri.
