In the Flow at the Larry G. Crites Memorial Park/West City Park in Festus, MO

Dayton In the Flow at the Larry G. Crites Memorial Park/West City Park in Festus, MO

My nine-year-old son is teaching himself how to skateboard. Yesterday, we went to the Larry G. Crites Memorial Park/West City Park in Festus, MO. Given the glorious weather and his determination, we stayed for over three hours. He said the time flew by because he was “in the zone of learning and loving his life.”

When we are so immersed and mentally engaged in an activity, it is as if time does not exist. We fall into a trance of being “in the flow.” It is a focused state of being lost in up leveling our skills while feeling a sense of connection and reward.Children naturally have a curious mindset and an eager, fearless attitude to study something new. This seems to dissipate as we get older and busier with the mundane tasks in our lives.

When is the last time you learned something new that challenged and motivated you?
