Everyone needs music in their life. Music transcends us, allowing us to access a wide range of emotions. Everyone also needs a musician in their life…an artistic soul to inspire us to both access, and express, our own range of feelings. Perhaps this is why I am drawn to live music. The combination of experiencing songs while observing a musician’s bravery instill feelings of being alive. Talented local musician, Joshua Eaker, does just this when he performs and connects with his audience. 
I have quietly admired Mr. Eaker’s live music performances for years, enjoying his shows around the Festus, Missouri area. After giving him an itty-bitty shout out on my January 8, 2023 post on Taytro’s Bar and Bistro, I learned more about Joshua from his social media shares. Mesmerized by his originality and vulnerability, I was intrigued to know more about him. I invited him to talk over coffee at Pine Mountain Country Coffee House & Mercantile on our historic Festus Main Street to learn about his history.
Joshua grew up in the Hillsboro/DeSoto area. Being homeschooled for most of his childhood, he traveled the country with his parents, absorbing a variety of places, cultures, religions and music. He learned how to play music and started helping bands when he was a teenager. Music fueled Joshua’s spirit and guided him into adulthood. Since starting his music career, he has performed solo (Just Joshin’ Around) and with others (Brother Lee and the Leather Jackals). Joshua’s music has led him to travel the country with fellow musicians while always having a home base in the St. Louis and Jefferson County area.
Joshua now adds his life experiences, as well as a newfound clarity, as his fuel source for the creation of his original song writing, and in identifying his many skills to help others. Joshua wrote a vulnerable post at the beginning of 2023, sharing a glimpse into his sobriety journey. With the fog of substances lifted, Joshua is clear about his purpose and passion:
“I am just here to help and make a living doing service,” he said, offering sincerity in his smile.
In addition to sharing his gift of music with the world (singer, lyricist, multi-instrumentalist, producer, DJ, and more), Joshua mixes up his schedule to benefit others in a wide range of services such being a trivia/bingo host, wedding officiant, screenplay writer, actor, senior companion/driver/shopper, handyman, and more. While he has compiled a list of the services he provides, he is open to requests that come his way. Joshua is looking to expand his circle, particularly in the Festus area. He is on a mission to meet more people, as well as discover new venues and private parties to perform at.
I commend this local entrepreneur/artist/performer/helper for branching out to provide his own unique service offering to the world. His genuine, giving and creative spirit is tender and uplifting. After my time with Joshua, I now add that everyone needs Joshua Eaker in their life.
