La Pachanga Mexican Cuisine in Herculaneum, MO

Audrey at La Pachanga in Herculaneum, MO

At 5:45 PM on a Saturday night, it was a total gamble if our party of 13 could get a single, large table for dinner in the Festus, Missouri area last night. My daughter turned 12 last week and wanted to eat and celebrate her birthday at La Pachanga for Mexican food and fun. I called ahead to see what we were looking at for a wait time. They graciously said they would immediately set up a table to ensure it was ready for our arrival at 6:00 PM. Boom! Our family has had many birthday outings here as it is always memorable and a fantastic option for larger groups. While we have had to wait at La Pachanga occasionally, this is not often our experience. I think there are a couple contributing factors to this:

– The location + size perception: Conveniently located off of Interstate 55 and the McNutt exit, at 1185 Scenic Plaza Drive in Herculaneum, MO 63048, this might be a forgotten restaurant option in the area. Nestled into the Scenic Plaza strip mall, between a new Imo’s Pizza and several other small businesses, the interior is much larger and more expansive than it appears on the outside. Several dining spaces with comfortable booths and tables, as well as giant bar with TV screens, provide many seating options for small and large groups.La Pachanga has an abundant Mexican menu, offering numerous margarita and drink specials, plus a variety of meat and vegetarian options for nachos, tacos, burritos, quesadillas, salads, fajitas and entrees with enchiladas, chimichangas and so much more. They provide American food, as well.

– The Service:

The speed from both the servers, as well as the kitchen crew, is consistently courteous and quick, which is another factor why I think La Pachanga can get people in and out in a timely fashion. Even though they are prompt with serving drinks and food, we never feel rushed. Having had many large birthday parties there, sometimes with gifts, there have been several occasions where we have stayed for hours to enjoy company and the atmosphere. Last night the La Pachanga team made my daughter’s birthday even more special by bringing out a gold-adorned sombrero and a sweet and crispy cinnamon and sugar tortilla dessert, topped with whip cream in the shape of a smiley face. Many servers approached our table to harmoniously sing, “happy birthday” to her in both Spanish and English. They concluded the song by gently smashing a plate of whipped cream in her face. This was hilarious and she loved every second of it.

In addition to loving the friendly people, speedy service and tasty food, the atmosphere is also noteworthy. Exquisite hand-painted wall murals and colorful festive flags brighten up the high black industrial ceiling and stone covered bar area. At some point, one of my children noticed design marks in the ceramic tile floor, on the way to the restrooms. There are delightful dark flaws that resemble itty-bitty paw prints. We always joke that a little critter must have walked by when the floor tile was being made. This is a silly thing for you to find and smile at.The next time you are looking to get some yummy Mexican food, hopefully with a minimal to no wait time, I encourage you to try La Pachanga in Herculaneum. Surely their bar TV’s will be playing the Super Bowl football game today.

There is another La Pachanga restaurant in the Crystal City/Festus by the Aldi in the Crystal City Center, as well as one in Arnold and Bonne Terre. This is another non-paid endorsement, inviting you to explore and support our local Festus-area establishments.
