We ask young children, “What do you want to do when you grow up?” We encourage youthful minds to dream about their future self and how they see their special talents and unique abilities fitting into a future profession.
As one ages, sometimes this is figured out quickly. Someone lands their dream job and builds a career that aligns their passion and purpose. Other times, each venture, career shift and timeframe in a less-than-ideal position is a steppingstone on our path to discovering what it is we want to do when we grow up…even if we are already considered a “grown-up.” Such is the story of local R-7 native and Crystal City, Missouri graduate, Angie (Becker) Rebsamen. While she now resides in Barnhart with her husband and two teenage children, her family base, church community and heart is embedded in the Festus area. This Jefferson County gal loves “her people” and this place.Always driven to help people in the medical/healthcare industry, Angie has had a successful career as a registered Respiratory Therapist, working with patients in their home, and in roles in sales and marketing for medical supply companies in the St. Louis area. After a heart-warming experience assisting a senior church member emerge from an unsafe home situation, she realized how many seniors and families need assistance with “next steps” as they grow older. Once Angie started to contribute her compassion and education in this arena, it all came together…THIS is what she wanted to do when she grew up! THIS is how she could use special talents and unique abilities to be of service to align her passion and purpose.
Angie now asks seniors, “What do you want to do when you grow older?” While this question, to this population of folks, is not as common as asking itty-bitty children about their early-chapter dreams, Angie encourages elders to explore the details of their final chapters of their life. This evaluation and planning is just as critical on the continuum of the life we live.
Angie is a proud Senior Care Advisor for Senior Care Authority. She has a hands-on, education-based approach to helping residents in Jefferson and St. Louis Counties, as well as family members who are involved in care decisions, but live out of the area.
Angie works with seniors at varying stages. Some of her clients are completely independent, strategically making their own plan for their future, with all their faculties intact. Sometimes Angie is working with family members who may be in more of a crisis mode, determining what to do with a loved one who is struggling, cognitively or physically.Angie and her team specialize in professional:
– Placement Assistance
– Eldercare Consulting
– Family Coaching
– Advocacy
– Senior Driving
Angie starts with an initial consultation to learn more about immediate and impending needs. From there, she assesses if/how she can help. This could look like consulting on how someone can safely age in their home. Other times, she is handling all aspects of tours and a move into a senior living community. Many are surprise at how far these communities have advanced over the recent years. Her clients now refer to them as “resorts” and are enjoying being pampered with vacation-style living. Angie has developed relationships and contracts with many local senior communities. This allows Angie to be paid by the community, rather than the senior or family. Regardless if a contract is in place, Angie’s goal is to ask questions, listen and provide options and resources that are best for each individual person/family dynamic/circumstance. Angie is patient and uses her wealth of knowledge, experiences and connections to leave each person with a next step for what is most supportive and beneficial for them.
In addition to helping clients and families with all of the services she provides, Angie is looking to widen her sphere of contacts within the senior care industry, particularly in the Festus area. She would like to expand her network of professionals and businesses to continue to offer relevant, local resources to her clients. I invite you to connect with Angie to see how her gentle and optimistic energy can benefit you and the senior(s) you love in your life.
This is another non-paid endorsement, shining the light on entrepreneurs and individuals who are working to intentionally and positively improve our community, while asking people, of all ages, what they want to do when they grow up/grow old.
