Meet Sara, the Creator of MyFESTUS.com

Hello!

My name is Sara. I am the creator of MyFESTUS.com, a storyteller, and a big fan of living in Festus, Missouri.

I help our local businesses and entrepreneurs to share their stories to connect them to our people, while we all support OurFESTUS community.

More about me…how this all started:

I have spent my whole life in small businesses and being a new kid on the block.

My father and I in Platteville, Wisconsin in 1994.

I started working for my father’s home remodeling company in Platteville, Wisconsin when I was in 5th grade.

Since then, I have always worked in some aspect of small business operations and communications.  I earned my B.A. in Professional Communication from Alverno College in Milwaukee, WI.

My parents and I at my Alverno graduation in 2013.

I have spent my adult life helping small, local businesses thrive wherever I have lived, in many cities throughout Wisconsin and Minnesota. For me, there is something so fresh, exhilarating, and energizing when an entrepreneur is bold and courageous to authentically share their gifts with the world to connect local people so that everyone can support a local community.

My parents and kiddos in 2020 in Festus, MO.

I moved to Festus in 2018, starting a new life chapter. I knew a few people and wanted my family to be in a great school district, within a positive and safe community .

With the busyness of getting settled into a new state while working full time with two young children and navigating a global pandemic, I craved connection. At the end of 2022, I became intentional to explore the energetic Festus-area community, full of beautiful nature, brave entrepreneurs, and compassionate people.

I got out there.

I asked to talk to people…residents, visitors, business owners, anyone who lived or worked here.

I asked questions. A LOT of questions.

After every conversation, I became even more energized with a special kind of love, admiration, and pride people had for this community.

The more I listened, the more I fell in love.

The more involved I became, the more it solidified my desire to call this community my home.

What initially started as a passion project to tap into my writing as I shared my conversations and adventures with the world, soon evolved into a mission to do everything I could to help local businesses and entrepreneurs to share their stories to connect them to our people, while we all support OurFESTUS community.

I now am a proud member of the Twin City Area Optimist Club, The Jefferson County Growth Association, and The Historic Tanglefoot Association.

Mark Russell (with LaChance Vineyards) and I at a Jefferson County Growth Association Meeting at Villa Antonio Winery.

Do you see me peeking through…having fun at an Historic Tanglefoot Association Meeting in Festus, MO?

As a “transplant,” I am extending my roots as I grow and thrive, while helping native residents, newcomers, and visitors do the same.

I am honored to publicly communicate local events, shine the light on people and places, share education, and provide encouragement.

At a St. Louis Cardinals came at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, MO.

I have two outgoing, fun, and silly children: Audrey and Dayton. They are still at ages where they like school (GO FESTUS TIGERS!) and think I am still somewhat cool to hang out with.

Our rescued mutt, Evita.

We have a chill, laid back, and lazy dog: Evita.

When I am not involved with kiddo activities, I love to be with friends out and about, in our community, especially when we go out to eat and listen to live music.

To relax and recharge, I capture the beauty of itty-bitty wonders in nature on long walks, play the piano, read magazines, paint with watercolors, rap to 90’s music, and drink hazelnut coffee.

I love living here…exploring and experiencing all there is to love.

It is a true honor and privilege to have the opportunity to share, connect, and support OUR Festus-area community BY:

Shining the light on what/who/how/why to explore and experience the culture here.
