Sometimes we feel stagnant. Despite the busyness that consumes us, or the open space in our schedule, we feel empty. Even if we are always around people and helping others, we need a spark in our life. We crave more meaning, connection or creativity.
“The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.”
– Mahatma Gandhi, 1869
Not all jobs/careers correlate with our purpose or passion. Depending on the chapter/season of our life, we may not have a lot of bandwidth to devote much time to what we consider “traditional service” to others (PTO, volunteering, non-profit events, etc.). Or, regardless of how much time we have to give, traditional acts of service may not feel natural or genuinely fulfilling.
While any acts of service are amazing, it can feel overwhelming to determine how/where to start/with who?
When I was still exploring how I could show up in a way that felt ENERGIZING to me AND how it could benefit others, I had fun creating a “Service Fulfillment Formula.”
I wanted to share this exploratory “Mad Libs” exercise with you, to help you (and/or your family, and/or your team) create YOUR own service formula, specific to YOU.
Let’s have FUN with this…
This exploratory “Mad Libs” exercise may help to create YOUR service formula, specific to YOU:
TOPIC + ACTION + AUDIENCE = SERVICE
In true Mad Libs fashion, try taking the first word that pops into your brain/what most resonates with you.
Identifying your interests + your unique skill set + who you want to help = clarity around how you may apply your offerings to others.
Simplifying can give us direction on where to start, with a focus that feels authentic to us. Helping others, with our own specific talent, increases our self-worth and affirms our purpose.
Service does not have to be all-energy consuming, nor should it feel like an obligation. Service should be an avenue to light/fill us up.
Have fun with this formula and allow itty bitty ideas and curiosity to run wild in your mind.
When others are positively affected by your actions, THIS is the win-win formula you, and the world, needs.
OurFESTUS-area community welcomes and needs you.
What is YOUR formula for service…from the past, present or how you could help in the future?
Please share your ideas in the comments on social media.
Please share this link/post with someone who may be feeling stagnant, or needing some energy that can only be created by a fulfillment of service.
