Some words, phrases and concepts just speak to me.
I was originally invited to attend a Twin City Area Optimist Club meeting to learn more about how this dedicated nonprofit organization helps our community.
While there, it was in reading the words of The Optimist Club Creed, that I felt a genuine connection to these powerful sentences and their meaning. I felt so aligned with the women around me, I wanted to become a member.
Since that first meeting a few months ago, I have had the great honor and privilege to learn more about this incredible initiative. Over 100 local women are members of this club, giving back to the southern Jefferson County community for over 35 years.
The Mission:
“By providing hope and positive vision, Optimists bring out the best in youth, our communities and ourselves.”
To do this, the members of the Twin City Area Optimist Club are committed to numerous projects and programs. They partner with an array of nonprofit organizations, schools and law enforcement departments to educate, honor and give back to the community. While they have countless fundraising dinners, donation drives and more, the local Twin City Area Optimist Club chapter has some primary community service projects that they focus on throughout the year:
- Youth art, essay and oratorical contests, some with scholarship opportunities
- Coats for Kids (600+)
- Christmas parties for Head Start students
- Dictionary distribution to over 1000 local third graders
- Supporting community families, parents, foster children, nurses, newborns and more groups with food, supplies, resources and support
- Honoring and celebrating nominated students and law enforcement professionals
This is an active and impactful group of ladies taking action and making a positive difference in so many lives. Each weekly meeting is heartwarming, inspirational and motivating.
I am grateful for Jean Naeger, who initially reached out and extended an invitation for me to attend that first meeting. The Optimist Club Creed that drew me in is below. If those words/values speak to you, I invite you to connect with me or another Twin City Area Optimist Club member to learn more.
This is a non-paid endorsement for the Twin City Area Optimist Club, encouraging you to be curious about helping or participating, even with an itty-bitty donation or attending a future fundraising event. We would love for you to kindly share this website page to shine the light on ALL the good we are doing in Jefferson County.
The Optimist Creed
Promise Yourself
To be SO STRONG that nothing can disturb your peace of mind.
To talk health, happiness and prosperity to every person you meet.
To make all your friends feel that there is something in them.
To look at the sunny side of everything and make your optimism come true.
To think only of the best, to work only for the best and to expect only the best.
To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your own.
To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the GREATER ACHIEVEMENTS of the future.
To wear a cheerful countenance AT ALL TIMES and give every living creature you meet a smile.
To give so much time to the improvement of yourself that you have NO TIME to criticize others.
To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear, and too happy to permit the presence of trouble.
